Justice Department officials have announced that Attorney General William Barr will postpone announcing that Special Counsel Robert Mueller has ending his report on Russian collusion. Curiously, a former U.S. attorney seems to believe that Donald Trump Jr. is the cause.
Former U.S. Attorney Barbara McQuade believes that it’s possible the congressional testimonies given by Donald Trump Jr. and Jared Kushner could be the reason for drawing out the investigation.
McQuade cited how President Trump’s former attorney Michael Cohen said, “One area that seems likely to be … under scrutiny by Robert Mueller is whether other people have lied to Congress.”
That statement leads McQuade to suspect it may be possible that Cohen thinks Trump Jr. or Kushner could have lied, and that Cohen may be passing that implication on to the investigation.
“I would think that if others lied about that matter [or] other matters, then we might see charges against them. That would include Donald Trump Jr. and Jared Kushner,” McQuade said.
Most likely this is just one more delay in an investigation that has the entire country on edge. Trump Jr. and Kushner have both already proclaimed their innocence and given that no outstanding evidence has been found it’s unlikely to turn up now.
