Behind the Poll:
The Committee to Protect Journalists has named China as the worst jailer of journalists for the third year in a row, claiming it had confirmed the arrest of 293 journalists by China in the previous year.
This builds on China’s reputation as an opponent of press freedom, given that they also topped the list from the CPJ in 2019 and 2020. Many of these journalists were dissidents reporting on issues like China’s poor handling of the coronavirus pandemic.
Do you think China was right to jail these dissidents, or should they have let them carry on doing journalism?
