ABC’s primetime soap opera Grey’s Anatomy recently attacked Thanksgiving, with one of its characters framing it as illegitimate because of colonialism. Lead character Meredith Grey’s adopted daughter, Zola, said:
“Thanksgiving isn’t really a holiday we should celebrate. There’s no actual evidence Native Americans were even invited to a feast. I think they cared more about being colonized and having their land stolen than mashed potatoes.”
Conservatives have criticized this as an inaccurate portrayal of its history, adding that Thanksgiving is really about recognizing God’s provision in our lives. Do you agree that Thanksgiving means more than what a character in a soap opera on ABC says about it?
