A 19-year-old British woman was killed and shoved into a refrigerator in what some suspect may have been an Islamic honor killing.
The murder occurred sometime last Wednesday after the unnamed killer, an older man whom the victim knew, forced both the victim and her 21-year-old cousin to a house in Kingston, London, and proceeded to attack them.
According to the London Evening Standard, the older cousin escaped and was admitted into a London hospital Wednesday evening with a slashed throat and multiple stab wounds.
Local authorities had reportedly launched a search for her and her younger cousin earlier in the evening after receiving a call about their welfare. When authorities learned of the attack after the older cousin’s arrival at the hospital, they promptly raced to the home and found the younger cousin’s body “intact” inside a refrigerator.
While the motivation behind this sick crime remains unknown, the Standard confirmed that two men have been arrested for the murder, including the older man, 33, who is reportedly related to the victims, and a younger, 28-year-old alleged accomplice. A 29-year-old woman was also detained, though her specific role has not yet been determined.
“Fortunately, one of the women managed to get away from the address and seek help — how this happened will form part of this investigation,” Detective Chief Inspector Samantha Price remarked in a statement, as reported by The U.K. Independent. “I am keeping an open mind as to the motive, but we are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with this case.”
