Democrats have included an amnesty in their $1.75 trillion budget reconciliation bill, but there are questions over whether it will pass the Senate. Projections from the Congressional Budget Office state that over 6.5 million immigrants would receive legal status or gain a path to citizenship through the bill.
The Build Back Better Act passed the House with these changes in the bill, and another change included was a Democrat plan to drop the need for parents to provide a child’s Social Security number to receive child tax credit payments. This could cost taxpayers over $10 billion, according to estimates.
