Behind the Poll
On July 27, 2021, Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds blamed immigrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border for the rise in COVID cases. She said, “none of them are vaccinated and they’re getting dispersed throughout the country.”
“Part of the problem is the southern border is open and we’ve got 88 countries that are coming across the border and they don’t have vaccines,” Reynolds said.
Joe Henry, state political director for the League of United Latin American Citizens of Iowa, was apparently offended by Reynolds comments. He called her statement “hate mongering” and suggested she focus on raising vaccination rates in Iowa.
